The Mac screen recorder with transcripts you can ask Claude about

Viddy is a Mac screen recorder that captures your screen, a window, an app or a region with your mic and the sound your Mac plays. It records any meeting on your Mac with no bot in the call, and when you stop you get a share link and a transcript made on your own Mac. Then you can ask Claude what was said in any recording.

What can Viddy record on a Mac?

Pick the whole screen, one window, one app, or drag a rectangle to record a region. A camera bubble can float on top of the recording.

Your microphone is recorded with a level meter, and Viddy warns you if no sound arrives. System audio is on by default, so when you record the Screen during a Zoom, Meet or Teams call, the other side ends up in the recording and the transcript.

  • Pause and resume: paused time is removed, so there is no gap in the video.
  • Mute the mic, or mute everything: muted stretches are kept as silence so the timing stays right.
  • Capture up to 1920 pixels wide at 30 frames per second, encoded with the Mac's hardware encoder when it is available.

What are the keyboard shortcuts?

Every shortcut works from any app. Pause, mute, mark, note and captions work while a recording runs. You can change them in Preferences under Video shortcuts.

  • Start or stop recording: Cmd+Shift+R
  • Record a screen region: Control+Command+R
  • Pause or resume: Cmd+Shift+P
  • Mute or unmute the mic: Cmd+Shift+M
  • Mute or unmute everything: Cmd+Shift+U
  • Mark an important moment: Cmd+Shift+I
  • Write a note at this moment: Control+N
  • Show or hide live captions: Cmd+Shift+L

How do you mark a moment or take a note while recording?

Press Cmd+Shift+I when something matters and Viddy saves that second as a marked moment. It shows up as a dot on the video's timeline and in the Notes tab.

Press Control+N to open a small note box and type what you want to remember. The note is pinned to the second you pressed the key, the box never appears in the recording, and your typing never reaches the app you are recording.

Does every recording come with a transcript?

Yes. Recordings from the Mac app are transcribed on your own Mac with whisper.cpp, so the audio is not sent anywhere to be transcribed. Transcripts are in English.

Each line has a timestamp, and clicking a line jumps the video to that second. The watch page has a search box for the transcript, and you can export it as a text file with timestamps or as SRT subtitles.

How do you share a recording from your Mac?

Choose when Viddy uploads: while you record, so the link is ready the moment you stop, after you stop, or never until you press Upload. Recordings you keep on your Mac still get a transcript.

Each video can be private, open to anyone with the link, or shared with your teams, with an optional password. Viewers can leave notes pinned to a second, and they can download the MP4 only if you allow it.

How do you ask Claude about a recording?

Connect Viddy to Claude, Claude Code, Cursor or another MCP client from the MCP install page, using your own Claude or Cursor account. Viddy has no chat box of its own: your AI tool reads your transcripts, notes and tasks and answers there.

Ask things like "summarize my call with Acme from Tuesday" or "where did we talk about pricing?". Claude can also suggest cuts, and nothing changes in your video until you review them and press Apply.

Why use Viddy if macOS has a built-in screen recorder?

macOS has a free recorder: press Shift-Command-5 to open the Screenshot toolbar, or use File > New Screen Recording in QuickTime Player. Apple's guide says recordings save to the desktop by default, and lists an Include System Audio option for macOS 27 or later (checked November 2026).

The built-in tool gives you a video file. Viddy gives you the recording plus a transcript, marked moments and notes, a share link, and a way for Claude to read it. For the free macOS steps in detail, see how to screen record on a Mac with audio.

Which Macs does Viddy run on?

There are two builds on the download page: one for Apple Silicon Macs (M1 and later) and one for Intel Macs. The app is signed and notarized by Apple.

macOS asks for Screen Recording permission the first time, and Viddy needs a relaunch after you grant it. A Windows build is available in early access.

Questions

Is Viddy a free Mac screen recorder?

Yes, there is a free plan with a monthly number of recording hours, transcripts, share links, notes and the MCP connection for your own Claude account. Pro removes the hour limit. See pricing for the current numbers.

Does Viddy record system audio on a Mac?

Yes. Recording other people's audio is on by default and captures what your Mac plays, mixed with your microphone. You can turn it off, or record a region with no audio at all.

Does Viddy add a watermark to recordings?

No. See screen recorder with no watermark for what the free plan includes.

How do I stop a recording in Viddy?

Click the square Stop button on the floating bar, or press Cmd+Shift+R again. You can change the shortcut in Preferences under Video shortcuts.

Can I keep recordings on my Mac without uploading them?

Yes. Choose Keep on this Mac and nothing uploads until you press Upload. The transcript is still made on your Mac, and recordings are kept in the Viddy folder in Documents.

Can I record a Zoom, Google Meet or Teams call?

Yes. Choose Screen (not Window) and record with your mic and system audio on, and both sides end up in the recording. No bot joins the call, so tell the other people you are recording.

What languages does the transcript support?

English. Transcripts are made with an English model, and speakers are not labeled.

Can I record my screen without installing anything?

Yes, the browser recorder records a screen, window or tab with your mic in a recent Chrome, Edge or Firefox.
