The Loom alternative that records any meeting with no bot

Viddy is a Loom alternative for Mac that records any meeting or screen on your own Mac, so no bot joins the call. While you record, you can mark a moment or write a note pinned to that second, and AI edits change nothing until you approve them. Viddy Pro costs less than Loom Business or Business + AI, with prices in the plan row.

Why do people look for a Loom alternative?

Loom's free Starter plan caps each screen recording at 5 minutes and keeps up to 25 videos per person, at up to 720p. Longer videos, downloads and removing Loom branding start on the Business plan.

Loom's AI features (auto titles, summaries, chapters and edit by transcript) sit on the Business + AI plan, which Loom lists at $24 per user a month on monthly billing. Loom says annual billing saves up to 17%.

If those limits are why you are looking, Viddy's free plan records without a per-video time limit and includes transcripts, auto titles, the transcript editor and share links.

How does Viddy record meetings without a bot?

Viddy records the call on your Mac: your screen, your microphone, and the sound your Mac plays, which includes the other people's voices. Nobody joins the call, so it works with Zoom, Google Meet, Teams or any other meeting app.

For a call, choose Screen (not Window) as the source so the call's sound is in the recording.

Loom's Notetaker takes a different route: a bot joins your scheduled Zoom, Google Meet or Teams meetings from your calendar. If you want an automatic recorder that shows up on its own, Loom does that and Viddy does not.

Whichever you use, tell the other people on the call that you are recording.

Can AI edit the video for you?

Yes. Ask your assistant something like "tighten this demo and cut the pauses" and it proposes cuts, each with a reason. It opens a live page where the cuts appear on the timeline, and you can undo any cut or move its edges.

Nothing changes until you press Apply on that page. You choose to edit the video itself or make a separate copy, and the original recording is kept so Restore original brings it back.

You can also cut by hand in the editor, by selecting words in the transcript or on the timeline, with no AI involved.

How do you bookmark a moment while you record?

Press Cmd+Shift+I to mark an important moment, or Control+N to write a note pinned to that second. The moment is captured when you press the key, not when you finish typing.

Marks and notes show up as dots on the video's timeline, so you and your assistant can jump straight to them.

How do you ask Claude about a recording?

You ask in Claude, Claude Code or Cursor, not in a chat box inside Viddy. Connect Viddy once from the MCP install page and it works with your own Claude or Cursor account, reading your videos, transcripts, notes and task lists.

Then you ask in plain words, for example "find the demo where I walked through onboarding" or "what did the customer ask for on yesterday's call?". The assistant searches what was said and answers with the video and the second it came up.

Loom also offers this through Atlassian MCP, which needs an Atlassian Cloud site. Viddy's connection needs no Atlassian site.

A connected assistant cannot record, delete or overwrite your videos, and it only sees recordings you own. You can revoke it any time in Settings under Connected apps.

Where are Viddy transcripts made?

Recordings from the Mac app are transcribed on your own Mac, and the audio is not sent anywhere for transcription. You can also keep a recording only on your Mac, and nothing uploads until you press Upload.

Titles, summaries and task lists are written by Claude from the transcript text only, never the audio or video.

Where is Loom stronger than Viddy?

Loom is the better pick if you need any of these today. Viddy does not have them.

  • Transcripts in 50+ languages. Viddy transcribes English only and does not label speakers.
  • Mobile apps for iOS and Android, and a Chrome extension. Viddy has no Chrome extension available today; it has a Mac app, a Windows build in early access, and a browser recorder that works with no install.
  • Auto chapters on Business + AI. Viddy does not make chapters.
  • A meeting bot that joins scheduled calls from Google Calendar or Outlook.
  • Built-in links to Slack, Jira, Confluence, GitHub and Gmail, plus emoji reactions on videos. Viddy links unfurl in Slack and Notion, and viewers leave notes pinned to a second, but there are no other integrations.
  • Recording up to 4K on paid plans. Viddy records up to 1920 pixels wide.

How do you switch from Loom to Viddy?

Install Viddy, sign in with Google and record your first video. Your link and transcript are ready when you stop.

How long can a recording be on Loom's free plan?

Loom's pricing page lists 5 minutes per screen recording on the free Starter plan, with up to 25 videos per person, and also lists unlimited meeting length. Longer screen recordings need the Business plan or higher (checked November 2026).

Can I chat with my recordings in Viddy?

Not inside Viddy. You connect Claude or another MCP client and ask it about your recordings; it reads the transcripts, notes and task lists and answers with timestamps. Setup is on the MCP install page.

Does Viddy have a Chrome extension like Loom?

No, Viddy has no Chrome extension available today. The browser recorder at viddy.lol/record works with no install in a recent Chrome, Edge or Firefox. In Chrome or Edge you can also record a single tab with its sound. On a Mac you can also use the desktop app.

Does Viddy add a watermark to free recordings?

No. Viddy adds no watermark on any plan. Free and paid recordings go through the same encoding.

Does a bot join my meetings?

No. Viddy records the call on your Mac with your mic and the sound your Mac plays, so no participant is added to the meeting. It works with any meeting app.

Can Viddy transcribe languages other than English?

Not yet. Viddy transcribes English only. If you need transcripts in other languages, Loom lists 50+ languages on its pricing page.

Does Viddy work on Windows?

There is an early access Windows build for Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit) on the download page. The Mac app is the main app, and Windows recordings are transcribed on Viddy's server after upload.
