Changelog

What has shipped in Viddy, newest first. The Mac app is available on the download page. Windows is not released yet.

Action items pulled out of a recording

added

Open a recording you own and Viddy can read its transcript and write up the tasks that were agreed to, each one linked to the moment it came up. Only the owner of a recording can run it, and the result is saved so opening the page again does not redo the work.

Transcripts for recordings you keep on your Mac

added

Recordings that are never uploaded now get a transcript too. It runs on your own Mac with no network involved, so a call you deliberately kept off the cloud is still searchable. The transcript is saved next to the recording and stays with it if you upload later.

Transcript beside the video in the desktop app

added

Playing a local recording in the Videos window now shows the transcript alongside it, the same way the web player does. Click any line to jump to that point, and the current line follows along as the video plays.

Mouse and keyboard activity saved with a recording

added

Viddy can record where you pointed, what you clicked, and when you were typing, stored alongside the video. This is groundwork for turning a recording into a written walkthrough. Typed characters are never captured, only that typing happened and for how long, so passwords cannot end up in a recording. It needs the macOS Accessibility permission, and recording works normally without it.

Version 0.1.0

Recordings are roughly half the size

improved

The video encoder was writing far more full frames than a screen recording needs. A 56 minute recording that used to take about 500 MB now takes a fraction of that, with no visible difference in quality. Uploads finish sooner and take less of your bandwidth.

Microphone audio no longer sounds thin and distant

fixed

Mac microphones are mono, and Viddy was widening that single channel into fake stereo, which made voices sound hollow. Your voice now sits centred where it belongs. There is also a gentle filter for desk rumble and air conditioning. System audio still records in real stereo.

Keep a copy on your Mac after uploading

added

Uploading used to delete the local recording. There is now a setting to keep it, in Preferences under Storage and on the recorder next to the upload mode. It is off by default, so nothing changes unless you turn it on.

An app menu, with Quit

added

Viddy shipped without a menu bar, so closing the window left it running with no clear way to exit. There is now a proper menu with Quit and Command+Q, plus New Recording and Videos under File. Quitting still waits for a recording in progress to finish writing rather than cutting it off.

Mac installers pass Gatekeeper cleanly

fixed

The downloaded disk images were not carrying their own notarization ticket, so macOS flagged them even though the app inside was signed. Both installers are now notarized and stapled, which also means they check out with no internet connection.

Download, privacy and terms pages

added

There is a download page at /download with builds for Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, and privacy and terms pages linked from the footer.

Long recordings upload without failing

fixed

A recording over about half an hour would climb to 60 percent and then stop. Viddy was gathering the whole recording into memory and sending it as one request, which was too large to complete. It now uploads piece by piece, so memory stays flat no matter how long the recording is, a hiccup retries one piece instead of the whole thing, and the progress bar reflects what has actually been stored.

Viddy updates itself

added

New versions download and install on their own. Updates never interrupt a recording: while you are recording Viddy does not check, prompt or restart, and applies the update the next time you quit normally.

System audio and microphone recorded together

added

Viddy records the audio from your Mac and your microphone in the same pass, so the other people on a call are captured along with you. You can mute the microphone and the call audio mid-recording with one shortcut, and pause and resume without ending the recording.

Editable keyboard shortcuts

added

Preferences now lets you set your own shortcuts for start and stop, pause, and muting, in case the defaults clash with something else you use.

Connect Viddy to an AI assistant

added

Viddy can be connected to tools that support MCP, so an assistant can look up your recordings and read their transcripts on your behalf. Sign-in uses the usual approval screen, and connected apps are listed in your settings where you can review them.

Choose when a recording uploads

added

Pick whether a recording uploads while you record, after you stop, or stays on your Mac and waits. Recordings held back appear under Waiting to upload, so you can send them when you are on a better connection or not at all.

A Videos window in the app

added

The desktop app has its own library covering both your uploaded videos and the recordings still on your Mac. You can play them in the window, and Show in Finder opens the file itself.

Live microphone meter and a warning when the mic is off

added

The recorder shows your microphone level as you speak, and warns you before and during a recording if the microphone is muted or silent, so you do not finish a long walkthrough only to find there is no audio.

Recordings live in your Documents folder

improved

Recordings are now saved to Documents/Viddy instead of Movies. Anything already recorded is moved across once, automatically.

Viddy for Mac

added

Record your whole screen, a single window or one app, get a link you can send, and a transcript that is generated on your own Mac. Recordings are hardware encoded, so recording stays light on the machine you are working on.

Recording recovers instead of failing

improved

If macOS screen capture stalls or refuses to start, Viddy retries, falls back to a second capture method, and tells you what happened rather than leaving a broken or empty recording behind.
