The three upload modes
While recording, After recording and Keep on this Mac, and which one to pick.
Step by step
- 1
Find the Upload row
It is directly under the Camera and Mic toggles in the recorder, labelled Upload. Set it before you press Start recording. Whichever option is selected, the line on the right tells you what it will do.
- 2
While recording
Uploads as you record, so the link is ready the moment you stop. Pick this when someone is waiting on the link. It uses your connection for the whole recording.
- 3
After recording
Records to your Mac first and uploads once you stop. Pick this on a slow or shared connection, or when you would rather the upload not compete with a call you are on.
- 4
Keep on this Mac
Nothing is uploaded. The recording is saved on your Mac and listed under Waiting to upload in the recorder, and under On this Mac in the Videos window. Upload it whenever you want to share it. Pick this when the recording should not leave your Mac yet.
- 5
Decide whether to keep a local copy
With While recording or After recording selected there is a checkbox, Also keep a copy on this Mac. Tick it to keep the file locally after the upload finishes, so you can watch it offline. It is the same setting as Keep a copy on this Mac after upload in Preferences, so changing it in either place changes both.
Worth knowing
- Preferences puts a figure on the local copy: about 275 MB per hour of call.
- A recording saved on your Mac is never uploaded on its own. It waits until you press Upload.
